Throughout his career Churchill was almost assassinated on a number of occasions - and more often than not his bodyguard Walter H Thompson saved his life. Working as a bodyguard between 1921 and 1935, Thompson saved Churchill's life more than 20 times - including from flying shrapnel during the Blitz, IRA plots, Nazi assassination attempts and from deranged members of the public.
