32. Same-Sex Marriage Was Legalised

It was the year gay marriage became legal in England and Wales at midnight after politicians agreed to change the law. Scotland bought in a similar law earlier in the year however Northern Ireland had no plans to legalise same-sex marriage.

Over 1,500 marriages took place within the first three months of legislation taking place. 56% were female couples and 44% male couples.
