Instead of someone performing as a celebrity it's not usual to find someone performing as the character the celebrity portrays. In this instance Max Koch is playing James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano. But if honesty prevails, Tony Soprano *was* Gandolfini. Who else could pull off such charm and loyalty wrapped around a Mafioso boss' cold black heart? Well perhaps Max Koch could.Koch successfully channels the late Gandolfini with astonishing accuracy. Koch isn't an experienced auteur like Gandolfini was but he manages to offer up the inner rage that was needed for the Soprano character. His characterization is almost to the point where if they decided to continue the TV series, especially after that awful ending, they could just drop Koch in Gandolfini's place and no one would be the wiser.
