In this day and age, with so much of our lives broadcast for the entire world to consume via social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, we€™ve become immortalized in the same way that many artists do €“ albeit often for much less flattering reasons. While the advent of these sites has given anyone with internet access a platform to espouse their views and opinions €“ something that isn€™t always a positive €“ it€™s also been a useful tool for allowing public figures immediate access to their followers and vice versa. A tweet or a status update is like a snapshot of your life; a moment or thought frozen in time to reflect back upon. Apps like Timehop make that even easier, providing a flash back at a previous update on a specified date. Much is made of men and women uttering their €œfamous last words€ - quotes attributed to celebrities and historical figures in their dying moments. In eras past the veracity of those statements could always be questioned, but in today€™s society a person€™s final words and thoughts are often put on display for everyone to view. Recently, sci-fi icon Leonard Nimoy departed this life; leaving behind an intensely poignant final tweet, but this wasn€™t the first example of someone€™s last foray on social media being particularly shocking, prophetic or thought-provoking.
