7 Ridiculous Harry Potter Moments That Are Only In The Books

3. Hagrid’s Racist Outburst – The Goblet Of Fire

‘The less you lot ‘ave ter do with these foreigners, the happier yeh’ll be. Yeh can’ trust any of ‘em.’ – Rubeus Hagrid

This is the most out-of-character piece of dialogue in the whole series. It’s the sort of thing you’d expect Uncle Vernon or Lucius Malfoy to say, not Hagrid. Indeed, the Hogwarts gamekeeper is normally one of the friendliest people in the entire castle.

In fairness, Hagrid’s temper probably got the better of him. Moments before his vendetta against ‘foreigners’, he had slammed Igor Karkaroff against a tree because he spat at Dumbledore’s feet. And several months earlier, Hagrid argued with Madame Maxime after he told her he’d never met another half-giant.

But it’s still a shocking moment. It’s just so ironic that one of the seemingly kindest characters in the series would make such a racist comment.
