3. Advanced Megastructures

At the time of writing, scientists are still bickering about that "alien megastructure" that they spotted around a neighbouring star. The general consensus is that it's probably not a Dyson Sphere, but it sure got everyone talking about Dyson Spheres didn't it?

As one of the ways we currently look for an exoplanet is to detect the dip in a star's light as it passes in front of it, we're pretty well set up to look for bigger, alien-made structures too. A Dyson Sphere, or other alien megastructure of your choosing, is basically a large, artificial structure built around a star. These could be used to gather the energy from the star to power a super-advanced civilisation and could even be the home of said civilisation. It could also take the form of a swarm of artificial satellites around the star, which is what we thought that megastructure was for a bit. The exciting implications of all this Dyson Sphere stuff, that no-one seems to talk about, is that this could well be a reality for the human race in the future. As our energy demands continue to rocket, a structure such as this would definitely aid us in our journey to the stars.
