4. Holograms

This one has made a hell of a splash online recently. You've been able to buy them online before, but the idea of making one for yourself out of an old CD case means that you can achieve the same effect for minimal dollar.

By placing the homemade "projector" on the screen of your smartphone or tablet, and playing a special hologram video, you can make it appear as though the image is being projected in 3D above the screen without the use of special glasses.

Technically, the effect created is not a true hologram, it is just a reflection on the multiple panes of plastic, but the end result is still damn cool and that's a good enough reason to try it in our opinion.
