This one doesn't get a fancy heading, because this is literally a lizard that literally shoots blood from its eye. It's a horror genre all its own.

It's a bit like that bit from Cloverfield, but with much more power.

North American desert horned lizards are predated on by pretty much everything in their vicinity, so they've developed some pretty novel defence mechanisms. The horned lizard has two special muscles around its eyes that it uses to cut off the blood flow to its heart. As the pressure builds and builds behind the eye, the blood ruptures the sinus membranes and flows into the ocular sinus, shooting a jet of blood up to four feet.

This is a process known as autohemorrhaging and looks every bit as horrific as it sounds.
