Disney World is always changing. Regardless of the amount of amazing rides and attractions it currently houses, things are constantly being planned for the future, like the upcoming World Of Avatar in the Animal Kingdom.

But what about things that were left in the past? With the vastness of Disney it's understandable that not every idea conceived actually comes to fruition. There are all kinds of reasons why ideas fail, like timing, budgeting concerns and more. Just because general impracticalities get in the way doesn't mean the ideas weren't incredible.

In fact, some of the most interesting Disney attraction concepts are the ones that never happened. From a futuristic world more concerned with alien life than future technology to a kingdom full of fantastic, mythical beasts, here are nine mind-blowing Disney attractions you didn't know were never built.

9. Beastly Kingdom

When it was initially conceived, Disney's Animal Kingdom was much broader in scope. As incredible as it is now, it was originally set to portray animals that exist today, animals that once existed but are now extinct, and animals that have only ever existed in myth, legend and fantasy.

These fantastical animals were to be depicted in a place called the Beastly Kingdom, featuring everything from the likes of unicorns, dragons and sea monsters. Not only that, but these creatures were to be split into two sides, the “good” and the “evil”. The evil side was to feature “Dragon Tower”, a sprawling, ruined castle housed by a fire-breathing dragon. The good side, on the other hand, was to feature a unicorn who lived in a massive maze.

Sadly due to budget cuts the Beastly Kingdom was put on the back burner and Camp Minnie-Mickey was constructed instead. In 2000, Walt Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde stated “We had a vision and now it's become a place holder”. With the construction of Pandora – The World Of Avatar currently ongoing in the Animal Kingdom, it's unlikely to ever appear.
