6. For The The Sweet Footage
Ill level with you, Im always slightly disappointed (but similarly impressed) that we went to the moon before the invention of HD.
Of course, there are a great many scientifically and even philosophically valid reasons why we should go back, but there is a major part of me that just really wants to see the showreel.
In an age in which a smartphone can shoot in 4K, the footage from a modern day moon mission would hopefully be a step up from the grainy footage from the sixties and seventies.
In an age in which space exploration comes mostly in the form of charts, data and readings, sometimes what you really need is a good old fashioned picture. In the past, it has been images such as Earthrise, the Pale Blue Dot and even the recent pictures of Earth from the ISS, that have captured the public imagination and even started movements.
Never underestimate the power of an image.
