Scientists are always beavering away, trying to unlock the secrets of the universe. Sometimes this results in something huge like the discovery of gravitational waves or a brand new subatomic particle. Sometimes this results in a study into exactly how attractive chickens think you are (no, really), which is obviously just as groundbreaking and important in its own way.

Science is all about taking the weird and the wonderful and poking it with a stick. What seems like a bafflingly odd discovery now might be run of the mill in a hundred years time. Back in the day, the discovery that the Earth wasn't the centre of the universe was mind blowingly out there, so perhaps some of the weirder discoveries today will seem blindingly obvious in the future.

Similarly, there were plenty of discoveries made in the past that seemed stupid and unimportant. Electricity was originally a pointless plaything without any real application, and many serious scientists thought it was a waste of time to study it. Who knows, perhaps the scientists of the future will be wildly thankful that someone bothered to study the opinions of chickens, and will scorn the doubters who thought it was a waste of time and resources.
