"We have something you really have to see. And touch."
While that in itself isn't necessarily enough to confirm the release, the accompanying image seems to explicitly hint at the release of the iPad 3... Unlike with the launches of the previous versions of the tablet, Apple can no longer claim total market dominance: while they have sold over 50 million units to date, the emergence of Android tablets and keep alternatives have made that grip slightly less emphatic. To really take advantage of that wonderful brand, what Apple need to do is market the third generation towards gamers more explicitly, with big things happening in the world of mobile gaming (lead by the genius innovation of the OnLive service). So what can we expect from the third iPad? Well, thinner is probably a good guess, and a bigger screen likewise, but news is that the tab will look exactly the same, with the major overhauls happening under the bonnet. The screen is said to be HD, which is somewhat predictable and the big change comes with the rumoured addition of a quad-core processor, which would herald the next generation of apps, and steal a march on every major competitor. We can also expect a new price point, with a rumoured kick-up of around $80 or so. Regardless, the queues are likely to start forming very soon.
