2. Disney/Fox Buyout

With the historic deal that Disney and Fox just cut, Disney has come into ownership of a number of franchises. One of these is indeed, the Alien franchise.

Ah, if Eisner were around, he'd be leaping with joy. After years of a love/hate relationship with the property, Disney finally owns it, full-sale.

As it stands, it looks as though future sequels, or prequels, or side-quels, are all on hold at the moment. Fox seemed to have lost interest on following through with their supposed plan of letting Ridley Scott make four (!) sequels to Covenant.
