Scotland's 10 Most Haunted Places

10. Provan Hall House, Glasgow

Provan Hall House dates back to the 1460s and has some royal links; though more interestingly it also has a compelling ghostly history. About 200 years ago, it was the site of a particularly nasty double murder. A soldier returning home to his wife after four years abroad discovered she had a two-year-old son who was clearly not his. According to lore, the soldier went out drinking, then returned home and murdered his wife and her child in rage, for which he was hanged. It's believed that the ghost of the murder victims and murder continue to haunt Provanhall and the master bedroom where the murders were committed is now called the Haunted Room. One visitor reported seeing the murdered woman's ghost cowering against the Haunted Room's wall, and a paranormal team picked up the eerie sound of something growling on their recording equipment. And if that wasn't enough there's also the ghost of Reston Mather, the last private owner, who died in the 1930s and apparently never left.
