Taxi? Too likely to induce guilt when you don't feel like conversing with the driver. Cycling? OK, cycling is mostly fine but there's still the sweaty problem. Some of the best strolling-paths London has to offer are along the canals. Often the busier and more unpleasant the area, the better and more secluded the canal path. One such path runs along Regent's Canal between Regent's Park and King's Cross. The surrounding areas are packed with tourists dragging wheely-bags off trains and businessmen talking loudly on their mobiles as they walk determinedly from one awful building to another. But the canal remains curiously quiet and has loads of good stopping-to-read spots on the way. Sit down among the wall-climbing plants, find an interesting duck to watch and waste a few hours en route to Camden.
