10. Junior dos Santos Vs. Alistair Overeem UFC 146/UFC 160
At UFC 141 fans had seen Alistair Overeem do something they had only seen current heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez do physically brutalise, dominate and destroy ex-champ Brock Lesnar. After a body kick and a flurry of brutal knees, Overeem had Lesnar badly hurt and went on to savaged the American with strikes for a TKO stoppage after just half a round. At this point, the inaugural Strikeforce heavyweight champions stock had never been higher. With the victory over Brock, Overeem promised to breathe life into a relatively shallow division which outside Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez was in desperate need of new talent. Alistair Overeem represented the perfect first challenger to the belt dos Santos had won when he stunned the world with that perfect overhand right against Cain. Not only did his imposing size and the fact that he had demolished Brock Lesnar make him attractive as a PPV seller, but his world-class kickboxing would make for a fascinating style matchup against JDSs incredible boxing. However, the fight which had been scheduled for UFC 146 on 26th May 2012 was cancelled when Overeem failed a prefight drugs test. The UFC tried to arrange this intriguing heavyweight clash again at UFC 160 though this time Overeem was forced to withdraw due to injury. Since the cancellations, Overeem has continued to disappoint fans high expectations of him and the talent vacuum between Cain/JDS and the rest of the heavyweight division continues to exist. Indeed, UFC president Dana White has accused Overeem of being scared to fight JDS.
