10 Biggest Underachievers In Fantasy Premier League 2019/20
10. Marcos Alonso - Chelsea
One of the FPL greats in recent years, Chelsea’s attacking left wing back Marcos Alonso had been among the top scoring Fantasy Football defenders for the past three seasons heading into the 2019/20 campaign.
The Spaniard looked a great option.
He loves to get forward, often providing assists for his teammates or even getting on the scoresheet himself, either from open play or scoring the occasional free kick. And Chelsea are usually solid enough in defence for him to claim clean sheet points too.
In Alonso’s defence, when he played this season he actually fared rather well and had one of the highest points per game averages of any defender.
The problem was that Alonso started out with a premium price of £6.5m, but went long spells without getting in the Chelsea team.
Part of this was down to injuries but manager Frank Lampard also said Alonso’s training performances had not been up to scratch.
This meant César Azpilicueta and Emerson Palmieri were both ahead of Alonso in the pecking order for much of the season.
Alonso did rekindle his form and regain his place when the Premier League restarted after lockdown, but 100 points for the season was an underwhelming return for one of the most exciting defenders in Fantasy Football.
