A fight between these two hard hitting Argentines is a mouthwatering prospect. Maidana is the reigning WBA welterweight champion and a former champion at the light welterweight division in which Matthysse competes in. Maidana's belt should be enough motivation for Matthysse to step up 7lbs. Both have huge knockout percentages, Maidana with 81% and Matthysse with 84%. So if this fights goes 12 rounds, then both fighters are in for some punishment. Both pugilists are promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, who have a contract with Showtime, so promotional nor broadcast conflicts would be an issue. Maidana's stock rose sharply following his defeat of Adrien Broner back in December, and with Matthysse's reputation of being a huge banger, then it's certainly a fight that could headline it's own show and draw big numbers. This is one fight I am confident of happening in the next 12 or 18 months, so providing the two men are game and neither have ever shirked from a challenge then it would have 'fight of the year candidate' written all over it.
