A fight up a weight class against someone not over-the-hill. The best vs. the best. Anderson Silva walks around heavy, and has fought at 205lbs before, most recently against Stephan Bonnar, who he decimated with a knee in October, 2012. Actually, that was Silva's last victory in MMA. He has also fought and defeated Forrest Griffin at 205lbs, and James Irvin. Jon Jones, however, is something else entirely. He's the best light heavyweight champion in history, has defeated multiple former champions, surpassed Tito Ortiz's record for title defences at light heavyweight, and has quickly entered the conversation for best mixed martial artist of all time. When talk of this fight first arose, the participants were hesitant. Silva and Jones were friendly. Silva expressed disinterest... but that seemed to change. He opened up to the idea - no dount for the right price. Dana White, meanwhile, had this to say in May 2013 to Gametime on CBS: "Silva has a fight coming up on July 6, he's fighting Chris Weidman. Many people think this is a very serious threat to his record and his title and everything else. But if he gets past this test with Weidman, we could see this super fight this year." We all know how the Weidman fight went, and that put an end to the Jones vs. Silva fight talk.
