10 Footballers You Completely Forgot Played For Liverpool
10. Alberto Aquilani
Italian midfielder Aquilani was brought into Anfield as what the club hoped would be a ready made replacement for the departed Spanish international Xabi Alonso.
They couldn't have been any wider of the mark in their assumption and prediction though, as Aquliani simply never got to grips with the pace of the English game.
Signed for a mammoth fee at the time of around £20m, the pressure to replace Alonso seemingly weighed on the mind of the former Roma midfielder, and only 18 Premier League appearances followed in a two year spell on Merseyside.
Loan spells back in Italy with the likes of Milan and Juventus helped Aquilani rebuild his career to an extent, before a permanent switch to Fiorentina enabled him to really get his flailing career back on track.
It was a case of what might have been for Aquilani during his spell with Liverpool and fans who do remember him are often left wondering just what went wrong for the Italian.
