10 Great Players Who Were Ruined By Spurs

9. Darren Anderton

Darren Anderton is one of many Spurs players who have been terribly injury prone in recent years. The difference to other injury prone players - such as Ledley King - however, is that Anderton's injuries were said to be less down to circumstance and more down to the club's handling of him. Specifically, Gerry Francis' handling of the player has drawn a lot of criticism and was said to be one of the main reasons the manager was sacked from the club. Francis would put Anderton in the team when he hadn€™t sufficiently recovered from injuries and, dduring the former Queens Park Rangers boss€™ tenure, Anderton ended up only being able to appear in eight games in the 1995-96 season and in 17 games in the 1996-97 season. Of course, Anderton was still a great player for Spurs, but his condition wasn't helped by the club. He made 364 appearances for the Lilywhites, scored 51 goals for the club and became a regular England international in that time. Arguably, he could have been the player David Beckham was without his injuries.
