2. 14-Year-Old Travis Pastrana At Lake Havasu, 1999
Perhaps the most brutal of all Pastranas injuries, at 14 the already successful freestyler, and incredibly hyped amateur motocross racer dislocated his spine from his pelvis, leaving him wheelchair bound for three months. In the documentary based on Pastrana, 199 lives, his father Robert said: He went from 60 miles an hour to reverse in just a split second. You figure, how can somebody survive that hit. I was sure that he was dead. Travis injuries almost cost him his life, and were much more serious that doctors first suspected. He said: People say that if you learn from your mistakes, they were worth it. With Havasu, the thing I learned, I dont know if it was a good thing. I learned that you can only tolerate so much pain before you pass out. I figured I had already been through the most pain I could ever possibly go through. So, there really wasnt anything to fear.
