Sunderland have had a deathly silent start to the summer transfer window, though they have made one signing, possibly their most important of the season, manager Dick Advocaat. The 67-year-old Dutchman brings a wealth of experience from around the world with spells as a domestic and international manager, meaning that one of the most important assets he'll bring to Wearside is a bulging list of contacts. While his playing career was a smaller affair, Advocaat is one of the best-travelled around, garnering huge swathes of experience from managing the likes of Russia, Belgium, Serbia and the United Arab Emirates as well as clubs including Zenit, AZ Alkmaar, and PSV. It is thought that Sunderland owner Ellis Short's vow to invest in the squad was a key factor in Advocaat's change of heart after initially leaving the Black Cats' hot seat to enjoy a long-awaited retirement. And with the club and supporters unified under Advocaat, the fans are getting excited about the summer ahead and players that may be snapped up to improve the squad which is in desperate need of fresh talent. It will be a window where quantity isn't neccesarily needed, but star quality certainly is. The following players have all played under Advocaat at some point, and though some of the targets may be out of reach, there's no reason Sunderland fans shouldn't be aiming high.
