Stamford Bridge has been a transfer merry-go-round over the last eleven years. Ever since Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich waded in to west London in the summer of 2003, pockets bulging full of cash, the club have embarked on spending sprees every year, as they look to capitalise on their financial muscle. Lavishly chucking money at the hottest young prospect at the start, Abramovich has learned to become more sensible with his money in recent years. However, there have still been a plethora of times when the club have surprised not only their avid support, but a slack-jawed Premier League audience when conducting their transfer business. Former captains of title rivals have been lured to the club, while British transfer records have been smashed for players who have terrorised John Terry at Anfield for years on end. Old Champions League-winning Chelsea heroes have returned, and a 24 year old midfielder from Reading signed on a free transfer. Take a look at the ten players nobody expected Chelsea to have signed. There promises to be a number of eyebrow-raisers amongst this list.
