Any fan of Glasgow Rangers over a certain age will chuckle as they recall the scene. During many important matches for the club, Richard Gough suffered a head wound. With blood trickling down his forehead, the then-captain would disappear down the tunnel for a moment or so, before returning with a white bandage draped around his skull, one already soaked in blood. The popular joke around Ibrox at this time was that Gough prepared the bandage before these games, such was his warrior spirit. Of course, this wasn't the case, the man simply put his head in where it was surely going to hurt. A well-spoken gent off the field, Gough was a titanic battler when the referee put the whistle to his lips and signalled the start of play. Fans could identify easily with Richard Gough, he was the kind of captain Rangers supporters adore. Representing the club well at functions and public appearances, it was rare to see Gough without his suit and club tie on. When wearing the captain's armband however, he would fight until the end of time to steer Rangers to victory. It's hard not to admire that.
