10 Players Who Must Regret Joining Rangers

By Jamie Kennedy /

8. James Beattie

Regret is certainly something James Beattie will have over his disastrous one-year spell at Glasgow Rangers. Looking unfit and ill-equipped to help lead the forward line at Ibrox, the former Everton and Stoke City striker was terrible ineffectual during the 2010-2011 season. Only 7 appearances and exactly 0 goals don't make for great statistics. Even though he had played in the English Premier League, the former English international looked ill at ease during his handful of appearances in light blue. On his debut, a 2-1 home success against Kilmarnock, Beattie struggled to retain possession. The ball simply bounced off him, and supporters were miffed at his £2 million price tag. During the second half of the campaign, the striker joined Blackpool, another club where he failed to score. The writing was on the wall for him, and Rangers cancelled his contract the following Summer. In interviews after leaving Scotland, Beattie said he regretted moving north of the border, because his father was ill, making it difficult for him to concentrate on football.
