10 Players Who Must Regret Joining Rangers

6. Tore Andre Flo

Former Chairman of Rangers, David Murray once said that for every 'fiver' spent by rivals Celtic, the Ibrox club would put down a 'tenner'. For that very reason, Tore Andre Flo was signed to the tune of £12 million, still the biggest transfer by a Scottish club to date. Celtic had earlier signed Chris Sutton for £6 million, so it seemed Murray was living up to what he had stipulated. There was only one problem, the fee was exorbitant. When Chelsea had signed the Norwegian striker in 1997, they had paid only £300,000. Yes, the player had progressed since then, but the amount paid by Rangers still felt ridiculous. There was no way Flo could live up to that billing, and he didn't. Having impressed for Chelsea before moving to Glasgow, Flo struggled at Rangers. After 2 years of mediocrity, the forward was sold to Sunderland for around £6 million, exactly half of what Rangers had paid. Few Rangers fans were sorry to see him go, but Flo's career never really recovered. Only 4 goals followed for Sunderland, and subsequent spells with Siena in Italy and Leeds United were a flop.
