The transfer window is filled with excitement, dejection and huge amounts of speculation, particularly when you're an Arsenal fan: it is a defining period for clubs and fans who eagerly await seeing an influx of new players into their squads. It is also, however, a hugely important period for the players too - a fact that is often overlooked - as they face new countries, new homes, new teammates and new fans. The transition can be painful and difficult, especially if the decision to switch clubs proves to be the wrong one, and somewhat inevitably, in a good deal of cases, that can be the case. Many players have jumped ship when the signs were looking bad and others have followed the money trail of rich new owners towards an imagined promised land of trophies and titles.
