Weight Class: Welterweight The main event of the evening sees former champion Johny Hendricks (173), with his high level wrestling, take on deadly striker Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson (11-1). It's the classic wrestler/striker battle, and it has huge consequences for the division. After losing a title shot to GSP in 2013, Hendricks was able to win the welterweight belt when the Canadian champion retired, only to lose it in a rematch against Robbie Lawler. With Lawler now an established champ, Hendricks is chomping at the bit for a title shot, though fans are not exactly behind him in his quest for a third shot at the belt (rematches have become a sticking point in the UFC). It doesn't help that he recently badly blew a weight cut, forcing the cancellation of a proposed fight against Tyron Woodley just before the event went down. Wonderboy, meanwhile, has been a highlight machine in the UFC. However, he has struggled against wrestlers to date. That puts him at a huge disadvantage here. While Hendricks has knockout power, look for him to wrestle his way to a decision, and back into the title picture.
