Though he is by no means a can, Keith Jardine (17-11-2) is not the calibre of fighter you would expect Chuck Liddell to incur a loss against. During his time in the UFC, Jardine was the type of fighter expected to occupy the middle of the divisions rankings, always having enough skill to consistently beat those at the bottom but not potent enough to break into the top-10. Prior to his bout with The Dean of Mean at UFC 76, Chuck had just fought and lost his belt to Rampage Jackson. This Jardine fight was by many regarded as a gimme fight for The Iceman to re-establish himself in the division en route to another run at the title. However, as we have come to expect with MMA, this fight didnt go according to the script. Jardine landed numerous heavy leg kicks on the former champ and slowed him down with body kicks. The underdog was able to avoid Chucks dangerous right-hand and won a deserved split-decision victory which should have been unanimous. One of the most recognisable faces of the UFC had suffered a shocking loss and Liddells chances of regaining his belt had slimmed drastically.
