7. They Hold The Record For Highest Home Attendance
Before moving the City of Manchester Stadium (or the ETIHAD, if you will), City played their home games at Maine Road. They moved to Maine Road in 1923 from Hyde Road, which was the first football ground outside of London to be visited by the reigning monarch. The club was also in talks to ground share with Manchester United before deciding to build their own place. Maine Road was a big stadium, holding up to 80,000 fans. This was disproved in 1934 when Stoke City came to town, and 84,569 crammed in to watch the FA Cup sixth round tie. Stoke might not be the most attractive of prospects in 2015, but in the mid 1930s they were big news, as the attendance testifies. This still holds the record for the highest home attendance in English football. Funnily enough, Manchester Uniteds highest home attendance also took place at Maine Road, when 83,260 crammed in to see them take on Arsenal in the First Division in 1948.
