Ask me who won the original Ultimate Fighter season, and I can tell you: Diego Sanchez. Why? He's been in absolute wars, including the 2013 fight of the year with Gilbert Melendez. Big Country won the heavyweight season. Rashad Evans won season 2, and went on to hold a belt. A lot of the times, however, the winners of TUF are quickly forgotten, and far more than just the winners make it into the UFC. Heck, half the time, the best guys sign direct, bypassing TUF entirely. So lets make it mean something: Put a title shot on the line again. That would hopefully see an influx of motivated contenders focusing on the fights, not the antics. It would get the public interested. It would get the media talking. Thing is, you absolutely have to have top quality contestants for this idea to work, something the UFC has struggled with. So, offer better contracts, and shift some of the talent you're signing directly onto the show. The UFC is actually doing this with TUF 20 by taking over Invicta's strawweight division, paying them for fights they would have had in Invicta that they'll now be missing, and awarding the UFC women's strawweight championship at the end of the season. It's a great step forward, now do it again with an existing division!
