AS Roma have gained quite a reputation for their creative and humorous social media exploits. The Italians seem to enjoy offbeat humor and they are quick to embrace a good meme. At times though, ideas that started as office inside jokes, seemingly make it past the pitch stage.
A possible example of this, is Aleksandar Kolarov's signing reveal. Aleks sits stone faced for over a minute while Roma's social media manager pitches an elaborate idea involving a fake kidnapping to announce him. In the background, his would be "kidnappers" look on.
While not everyone's cup of tea, the video pokes obvious fun at many social media stereotypes and the tendency for big clubs to embrace these clichés. The overly violent plot is more of a GTA parody than a commentary on how clubs try too hard to look cool, but it still manages to make some kind of point.
This would have been genius if it was a parody of Sevilla's Jesus Navas announcement, but Roma's effort preceded that gem by about a week. As for Kolarov, he enjoyed a fantastic spell in Rome, showing that there is life after the Premier League.
He also managed to be included on squad photos, unlike Ashley Cole.
