11 Surprising Stats From Swansea 2-0 Newcastle

NUFC were poor - and the "surprising" stats make them look even worse...

Two Barclays Premier League games down as Newcastle United boss for Steve McClaren, and yet still zero victories. The former England manager's first away match as Magpies head coach saw his side travel to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea City, and they were soundly beaten 2-0 in south Wales. Once Jonjo Shelvey released Bafetimbi Gomis in the ninth minute with a pinpoint through-ball and the striker rounded Tim Krul to net the opener, it looked like it could well be an extremely-long afternoon for the travelling Toon supporters. And so it proved to be. With Daryl Janmaat getting himself stupidly sent-off for two bookable offences - both of which were on Swans winger Jefferson Montero - in the 41st minute, the second-half was merely about damage limitation for Newcastle. Andre Ayew, another player like Gomis linked to the Magpies in the past, rose to double Swansea's lead midway through the second 45, and the game ended 2-0. Newcastle were comfortably second best on the day, and all the statistics back that up, although there are some unusual ones too.
