During the men's free skate, American Jeremy Abbott failed to land a jump and went crashing into the barriers. After ten excruciating seconds, he finally pulled himself up and proceeded to complete his routine despite visibly wincing at each movement. The crowd, which is primarily Russian at all events, cheered and clapped him throughout, and he thanked them afterwards as he accepted a poor score. It's also strangely affecting to see our former Olympians, such as Robin Cousins, the more recent medallist Amy Williams and even Eddie Edwards emerging to support the new generation.
