15 Things Only Basketball Players Will Understand

7. Defensive Training Sessions Are The Worst

This isn't what you signed up for. When you began to play basketball you dreamed of launching successful shot after shot, slicing through opposition defences with mind-blowing moves, and throwing silky no-look passes to your mates. Unfortunately, half of basketball involves not actually having possession of the ball, which means that learning to defend is just as important as having a jump shot with Wi-Fi range. This often involves training sessions devoted entirely to shuffling around like a crab, taking painful charges, and getting far too close to your teammates when jostling for rebounds. It's all worth it once the weekend comes, but getting there can be torture.
