While Pep Guardiola, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co have spent the summer preparing their teams for the opening weekend and beyond, the pressure on their shoulders is nothing compared to that which fantasy football managers up and down the country feel.

Captain choices, when to play certain special chips and what bargain buys to go for are all things which fill the heads of fantasy players on a weekly basis, and it's safe to say it dominates a lot of football chat throughout the season.

There is of course a knack to doing consistently well in these sorts of games, and while there is always an element of luck involved, you can take certain steps to maximise your output.

The more casual fantasy football player might say that people take it a bit too far, but with massive sums of money on offer from the likes of The Sun, as well as those personal wagers with pals, there is everything to play for and more heading into the 2019/20 season.

5. Study The Fixtures

It might sound completely obvious this one to some, but studying the fixtures and planning who you're going to have in your squad at certain times is crucial.

Football can't be predicted as we all know, but there's enough of a case to be made to plan to have the likes of Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane in your team when their opponents might be teams in the bottom three.

Being good at fantasy football is all about trying to maximise the probability of your players getting big points on the board, so keeping an eye on the fixtures is vital.

There will always be those times when someone pops up with an unlikely hat-trick or someone tipped for relegation sneaks a 1-0 win at one of the title favourites.

Those games are few and far between though, so ensuring you have your big hitters in the starting XI when their chances of racking up the points are higher than normal is a crucial aspect of the game.
