5 Players Who Have Represented Newcastle And Northampton Town

We're clutching at straws here, massively...

Newcastle United take on Northampton Town in the second round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening. The Magpies will be hoping to launch a successful cup campaign that will see them bring silverware to St James' Park for the first time since 1969's Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Steve McClaren will be looking for his first competitive win as the Toon's boss against a side that have won two and lost two, in Skybet League Two so far this season. This will be a test for McClaren - who stated on his arrival at the club that winning one of the two domestic cups was one of his "primary objectives". With that in mind, there's a good chance that United will field a strong team against The Cobblers. The home side will be keen to build a great deal of momentum after an impressive defensive display saw them walk out of Old Trafford with a point on Saturday. Wayne Rooney had a goal disallowed while a number of Man Utd chances came close - but the former England manager's team could have easily won the game themselves as Aleksandar Mitrovic saw a header crash off the bar, while new £13 million signing Florian Thauvin had a Paul Gascoigne moment when he saw a square pass from Papiss Cisse slide just too far in front of him. Thauvin could make his first start after being introduced from the bench at the weekend, while a fellow new signing (who could appear in this list) may also get a start. Here's 5 players that represented both Newcastle United and Northampton Town during their careers.
