There is no doubt that Steve Bruce is a great manager and has expertise in the Championship. However, his decision to take the Aston Villa job could well turn out to be career suicide. First of all, he is too good of a manager to take over a club in such a mess.

The second problem he has is failure in this job could result in him struggling to find work again if he isn’t successful. There are certainly plenty of managers that have had a hard time getting a decent job again after taking an opportunity that they shouldn’t have.

The problem when managers change is that the new man may not be keen on the squad he has to work with. However, it’s hard to believe that another war chest will be handed out In January, so Bruce may have to get the best out of the current squad.

Of course, there is quality in the squad and different managers are sometimes able to get things out of players whether that be good or bad. Nevertheless, a manager likes to be judged by his own group of players. Given the other points made here, Bruce may never get that luxury.
