Just when it looked as though under-pressure Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal had survived the miserable winless month of December and his side were set to be reborn in 2016 as genuine title contenders, he watched helpless from the sidelines as his team reverted to type. A toothless, gutless display from what was once the greatest team in the land saw them have just one shot on target - at home - before Southampton debutant Charlie Austin sprang from the bench to show Old Trafford what a goal looks like. The game was far too similiar to too many games this season. Van Gaal's charges were slow, uninspired, bereft of ideas and seemed frightened to try anything even close to creative. The panache and flair of the Fergie days seem long gone at Old Trafford, and the blame for that lies at the door of only one man - the manager. With United now languishing in fifth place and looking like they won't even compete for a Champions League spot, nevermind the title, I think it's time for the club to bite the bullet and show the Dutchman the door. He clearly isn't the right man to lead Manchester United back to their glory days, and here's why.
