At Liverpool Brendan Rodgers used Sterling in a variety of positions. He played just behind the strikers in a 4-3-1-2 formation or on the left side of a 4-3-3 before being used as a false nine due to The Reds' striker problems - a problem that Pellegrini doesn't have. Therefore, a 4-3-1-2 formation that showcased Sterling's best football during 2013/14 season would suit him well but would mean playing David Silva deeper as part of a midfield trio with Yaya Toure and Fernandinho. Pellegrini may decide to stick with his favoured 4-2-2-2 using Sterling as a replacement for Jesus Navas and Samir Nasri or play him alongside Silva and Aguero as part of a 4-3-3 mirroring the successful partnership he had with Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge. It's normal for Sterling's ability to be analysed when he is now the owner of a £50 million price tag that will be pinned to him every time he mistimes a shot or gets tackled in the final third but we all know he's an exceptional talent, a future superstar and a player who would not look out of place in City's first eleven.
