Sterling was quoted saying that he isn't leaving for the money but that he wants to move for the glory, the trophies, silverware and medals. A trophyless campaign last year means that Manchester City will be keen to get Vincent Kompany's hands around some polished silverware as soon as possible. Despite their rich history it's hard to class Liverpool as a 'trophy winning club' anymore and they're currently below Europe's elite. A move to City means that Sterling can play at the top level and compete for major honours and if he picks up some extra money along the way then so be it.
