£30 million Argentinian star Erik Lamela will be hoping to put the 2013/14 campaign behind him and move forward positively. A lot was expected of the skilful attacker when he joined from Serie A side Roma, following Gareth Bale's world record transfer to Real Madrid. Indeed, he was viewed by many as the Welshman's direct replacement - but it simply didn't pan out that way. Many people - both in the press and amongst fans alike - had branded the youngster a flop. This was, however, incredibly harsh. Few people gave the guy a chance - the change of country, culture, language and pace of the very game he was playing will have come as a shock to the six-cap international and it should go without saying that there might have been an adaptation period. Injuries didn't help matters either - a back problem rendered him unable to play for the entirety of the second half of the season and, following on from a first half that had seen him make a mere seventeen appearances (only nine of which were in the Premier League and several of which came from the bench), he had scored a single Europa League goal against Moldovan opposition and was the target of some incredibly harsh criticism.
