The big New Zealander smashed in 27 league goals in the Championship last season, and had already hit the net once before Burnley snatched him in the final week of the transfer window.

His form has transcended into the Premier League and shows no signs of slowing, with Wood scoring in each of his starts so far for his new club.

While the Clarets will likely be involved down the lower end of the table this term, there is still every chance Wood can score enough goals to put him in the frame for the Golden Boot come the end of the season.

We have seen players in the past take the trophy despite not playing for top six clubs, with Kevin Phillips the standout example of this from his Sunderland days. While this does not mean Wood is a dead cert to hit 30 goals, he can take encouragement from what has been done before him and become a surprise winner this season.
