8 Footballers Who Could End The Lionel Messi/Cristiano Ronaldo Era Of Dominance

By Henry Jackson /

7. Sergio Aguero

Aguero is a phenomenal footballer, and one that doesn't always receive the accolades he deserves. He is easily one of the top three strikers on the planet currently - Messi and Ronaldo don't count as strikers - and he is Manchester City's most important player by a distance, with all due respect to the sublime David Silva. The 26-year-old has everything you need to be a world-class player, whether it be pace, power, finishing, creativity or a brilliant work-rate, and time and time again he comes up with the goods in the big games. His Champions League hat-trick against Bayern earlier on in the campaign is the perfect example of this. It's hard to believe that Aguero is still just 26, considering how long he seems to have been around, and he should remain in his prime for several years still. He just needs to stop picking up injuries. The chances of the Argentina star winning the Ballon d'Or while at City appear unlikely, unless he inspires them to an unlikely Champions League triumph, but if he were to move to Real Madrid, for example, his chances would improve greatly. He would be playing alongside even better players, and his goalscoring record would likely be unbelievable.
