Believe it or not, none other than Dennis Wise was briefly linked with the manager's job at Glasgow Rangers. The ongoing wrestling match for power in the Ibrox board room involving the likes of Dave King and Mike Ashley shows no signs of stopping anytime soon, and it seems Ashley would have been interested in bringing in his own man to boss the club had he been able to seize hold of power. Following the departure of Ally McCoist, it looked like Ashley was all set to take charge, and it's likely he would have installed a man he felt he could trust. Enter Dennis Wise, a former Executive Director Of Football at the club Ashley owns outright, Newcastle United. As stunning and strange as it sounds, there were brief reports that Wise would be headed to Glasgow, taking on the job of stabilising an ailing Rangers. Before Newcastle, Wise had done a decent job with both Swindon Town and Leeds United, but any links to Sports Direct owner, Ashley would have surely damaged a relationship with the legion of Ibrox fans. There's no doubt about it, this would not have been a popular decision, and it has to be considered as dodging a bullet by fans of Rangers that Mike Ashley hasn't taken full control of the club, because an appointment such as this would be impending if he did.
