AC Milan "enquired" about the availability of Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko before making a move for Roberto Soriano, according to a Sky Sports Italia reporter. Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the Serie A side asked the Magpies how much Sissoko would cost, and that Newcastle responded with £15.5 million (‚22 million). Although that fee appears lower than Newcastle would likely ask for their 26-year-old French international midfielder, it appears as if Milan have instead turned their attention to Sampdoria's Soriano anyway.

Barcelona's Rafinha is also cited in the article as another player Milan took a look at before opting to move for Soriano. Earlier this month, The Shields Gazette claimed that Newcastle are even looking to offer Sissoko a contract extension in order to keep the Frenchman at St James' Park long term, suggesting this report from Di Marzio is likely to be a little wide of the mark. The contract upgrade is in order to ward off reported interest from Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain. Since joining Newcastle from Toulouse for £1.5 million in January 2013, Sissoko has scored 11 goals in 96 appearances across all competitions.
