Andre Villas-Boas Confirmed As New Tottenham Hotspur Manager
Spurs confirm AVB as Head Coach on three year deal.
The Club is delighted to announce Andre Villas-Boas as Head Coach. The 34-year-old former Porto manager flew into London yesterday to sort out personal terms, and today signed a three year contract to succeed ousted predecessor Harry Redknapp. AVB will have to wait until April 13th to make his return to Stamford Bridge, and he will have a lot of work on his hands before then to make sure that the club get over what was a disappointing season last term despite a fourth place finish that would usually have guaranteed Champions League qualification (albeit through a preliminary qualifier). For all of the media appreciation of Harry Redknapp, and his link to the England job, the tail-end of Spurs' season brought more disappointment than it did success, with an appalling run of form, and the unwanted distraction of Redknapp's high-profile court case, and AVB now faces more of a rebuilding job than some might realise. First on the agenda will be attempting to convince star player Luka Modric to follow Gareth Bale's example and sign a new contract, resisting the long list of suitors who will be keen to take advantage of Spurs' failure to qualify for the Champions League. Whether he can convince the Croatian that the club will be headed back in the right direction under his stewardship is up for debate, considering his disappointing time in charge at Chelsea, but the manager will at least not be hamstrung by an older player revolt as he was reportedly at Stamford Bridge. In response to the news, the club's website went into melt-down. So Spurs fans - do you welcome the appointment of AVB? Share your thoughts below.
