In what will come as a shock to exactly nobody, West Ham United striker Andy Carroll has been ruled out of action for up to three months according to BBC Sport.

The former Newcastle and Liverpool man, who has been plagued by injuries his entire career, has had surgery on the same ankle that kept him off the pitch toward the end of last season.

During his six seasons with The Hammers, Carroll's injuries have allowed him to play over 20 league games in a single season just twice, battling problems not only with his ankle, but also his knee, foot, and thigh. If there is a part of the body that can be injured, Andy Carroll has injured it.

This news will all but confirm Javier Hernandez's status as top striker for Manuel Pellegrini, and Carroll will have a tough test to break back into the starting 11 upon his return.

West Ham will continue their pre-season friendlies without their big target man against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday 14th July, looking to bounce back from a 3-2 loss in their first friendly against Swiss side FC Winterthur.
