Arsenal 2-0 Liverpool: Player Ratings

By Jamie Clark /

Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey scored as Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points with a win over closest rivals Liverpool. Who impressed us in the WhatCulture office? Here are our player ratings.

Arsenal

Wojciech Szczesny: Had little to do, but came off his line smartly several times. 7/10 Bacary Sagna: Booked on 250th appearance for bringing down Suarez when Liverpool broke, but part of a solid back four that is keeping clean sheets. Had a hand in Cazorla's opener. 7/10 Per Mertesacker: Nobody managed to exploit the giant German's lack of pace. Partnership with Koscielny is so impressive. 7/10 Laurent Koscielny: Went in tight on Suarez and the best defender on the night. Blocked crosses. 7/10 Kieran Gibbs: Had a deflected shot go behind. Picked up an injury in second half. Subbed. 6/10 Aaron Ramsey: Now in double figures for goals this season. Took his today beautifully. Nice to see Ramsey playing to the maximum after his horrible injury. Pinged it around sublimely. 8/10 Mikel Arteta: Always had options to pass to further forward. By no means a traditional holding player, but his own unique way of playing deep was reminiscent of Xabi Alonso at Liverpool a few years back. Arteta is an underrated player, but gets the plaudits here as our man of the match. 8.5/10.
